Animals - After the Lion-Safari - Wildboars annoy Kleinmachnow

It was the sensation of the summer. One year ago, on July 20th, a supposed she-wolf caused an uproar in the community Kleinmachnow southwest of Berlin. After 30 hours, it was revealed that the police were chasing a wild boar - no sign of a she-wolf. Kleinmachnow was already famous and received plenty of mockery internationally.

Nowadays, pictures and videos of plundering wild boars in residential areas are circulating. There are more wild boars than many residents like in Kleimachnow. Whole herds are in search of food and rummaging through garbage bins.

"Tonight there was a lot of noise and trash can throwing again", wrote resident Barbara Schlesinger in a Facebook group. Residents are now testing which locks work best to protect their garbage cans. Experimenting with ropes around the cans is also being considered.

The anger in the population is rising again, said Schlesinger. Daily encounters with wild boars, noise and dirt from raided garbage bins, overturned green areas, and feces on the roads are becoming more frequent.

Two new gamekeepers in Stahnsdorf-Kleinmachnow are supposed to "balance the relationship between man and wild boar" again, as the town administration announced in June. The wild boars should be lured out of the residential areas and into the forest to enable hunting, it was said.

The gamekeepers want to above all find problematic animals, "before they teach the young ones the stupidities that have already caused enough trouble." There are supposed to be feral animals that no longer maintain a natural distance, according to the town. According to estimates by a gamekeeper, there are around 600 wild boars in the region.

Kleinmachnow's lion safari has consequences for animal husbandry

The lion hunt in Kleinmachnow last summer certainly required action for animal husbandry. The country is introducing a dangerous animal regulation, which already exists in other federal states. Dangerous and wild-living animals that can harm people or other animals are then no longer allowed to be kept. This includes venomous snakes and spiders, but also big cats of all kinds. However, it was unclear when the dangerous animal regulation would come into force.

  1. The incident in Kleinmachnow, southwest of Brandenburg, Germany, last summer, involving a supposed she-wolf causing an uproar, has led to strict regulations in animal husbandry within the country.
  2. Despite the rumors of a lion in Kleinmachnow, it was revealed that the noise and destruction were caused by wild boars, leading to a rise in mockery internationally.
  3. In response to the increasing wild boar problems in Kleinmachnow, two new gamekeepers have been appointed to balance the relationship between humans and wild boars, with a focus on luring the animals out of residential areas and into the forest for controlled hunts.
  4. The lion safari incident in Kleinmachnow is now resulting in a dangerous animal regulation being introduced in the country, which will prohibit the keeping of dangerous and wild-living animals that can harm people or other animals, such as big cats.
  5. Residents in Kleinmachnow are turning to social media platforms like Facebook to share their frustrations, with Barbara Schlesinger sharing her experiences of daily encounters with wild boars and the resulting noise, dirt, and damage to property.
