Airports - After IT-glitch: Operations at NRW airports run again
After the worldwide IT disruption, the operations at the two largest NRW airports in Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn have normalized. The flight operations started normally this morning, reported Düsseldorf Airport. The disrupted check-in and boarding processes of Eurowings were running again. On Friday, around 50 takeoffs and landings by Eurowings were cancelled at the airport.
Cologne/Bonn Airport reported a "regular operation". There were still occasional delays. Since Friday evening, all airlines have applied their usual procedures again. Both airports reported that their IT systems were not affected by the disruption.
Düsseldorf Airport, the largest in NRW, expects an average of almost 70,000 passengers per day during the summer holidays. In total, the airport of the state capital plans for around 3.3 million passengers during the holiday season. At Cologne/Bonn Airport, there are planned for roughly 270 flight movements - 143 arrivals and 131 departures - for today, said a spokesperson.
- Eurowings, a major airline based in North Rhine-Westphalia, mainly operates from Düsseldorf International Airport.
- The normalization of air traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia's airports has significantly improved the journey for passengers, especially in Duesseldorf.
- Despite the overall improvement, occasional delays continue to occur in the air traffic management at both Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn Airports.
- Information technology plays a crucial role in managing the complex operations of Eurowings and other airlines at Düsseldorf International Airport.
- Eurowings passengers can now resume their journeys with ease, as the disrupted check-in and boarding processes have returned to normal at Düsseldorf Airport.
- Bonn's Cologne/Bonn Airport anticipates 270 flight movements today, including 143 arrivals and 131 departures, showcasing the significant contribution of air transport to the region.
