Airports - After IT-glitch: normalization of operations at NRW airports
After the worldwide IT disruption, the operation at the two largest airports in Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn has normalized. The flight operation started normally this morning, reported the Düsseldorf Airport. The disrupted check-in and boarding processes of Eurowings have resumed. On Friday, around 50 Eurowings departures and arrivals were cancelled at the airport.
Today, Eurowings flights were also cancelled in Düsseldorf. Ten out of 100 Eurowings connections were cancelled, according to a company spokesperson. This affected connections to Porto, Zagreb, and Edinburgh. It concerned systemic effects of the IT disruption. "The goal is to get everyone rebooked as quickly as possible," said the spokesperson.
Cologne/Bonn Airport reported a "regular operation". There were still occasional delays. Since Friday evening, all airlines have been applying their usual procedures. Both airports reported that their IT systems were not affected by the disruption.
Düsseldorf Airport, the largest in North Rhine-Westphalia, expects an average of almost 70,000 passengers per day during the summer holidays. In total, the airport of the state capital plans for around 3.3 million passengers during the holiday season. At Cologne/Bonn Airport, there are planned for roughly 270 flight movements - 143 arrivals and 131 departures - today, said a spokesperson.
The IT disruption didn't affect the operations at Cologne/Bonn Airport, as reported by their spokesperson. Despite the normal operation, there were occasional delays. Eurowings operations in Bonn were not impacted by the global IT disruption. The journey for passengers at Düsseldorf Airport, being the largest in North Rhine-Westphalia, continues smoothly during the summer holidays. Despite some cancellations, Eurowings aims to rebook affected passengers swiftly. Air traffic in both Düsseldorf and Cologne cities has returned to normal following the IT issue.
