- After escape of murderer: Fines for JVA-officers
Due to a convicted murderer being able to escape under their supervision, two officers of the Justice Correctional Facility (JVA) Bruchsal have been fined. In a disciplinary proceeding, a violation of the duty to continuously and immediately supervise inmates was confirmed, the Baden-Württemberg Justice Ministry stated. The ministry refused to comment on the amount of the fines due to confidentiality and data protection reasons. The two officers are still in service at JVA Bruchsal. Previously, several media reported on this.
The then 43-year-old, who was imprisoned in Bruchsal (Kreis Karlsruhe), escaped one day before Halloween during a monitored outing to a gravel pit in Germersheim (Rhineland-Palatinate). He was supposed to meet his wife and children there under the supervision of the two JVA officers. The police have been searching extensively for the murderer since then. The man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Regional Court Karlsruhe in 2012. He had served his sentence in prison Bruchsal until then.
The officers who were fined for negligence in supervising an escaped murderer at Bruchsal's JVA were originally from the same region, Rhineland-Palatinate, where the escape occurred, in Germersheim. Despite the disciplinary action, the convicted murderer remains at large, with the police persistently investigating criminality related to his escape.
