Lower Bavaria - After a tire blowout, a driver becomes a thief

After his own tire blowout, a 37-year-old man at a commuter parking lot in Hofkirchen (Passau district) attempted to steal a new tire from another vehicle. However, he failed to notice that the other car contained a sleeping driver, as the police reported. The driver woke up due to the noise of the attempted tire theft and called the police.

When the officers arrived, the man initially denied the crime. However, the police found a tire cap from the other vehicle in the man's car. He eventually confessed. A three-digit security measure was ordered by the prosecutor's office. The man now faces investigation for grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

In the same District Passau, where the tire theft incident occurred, authorities have been maintaining a vigilant eye on criminal activities related to traffic, particularly in Lower Bavaria. The local police have implemented an automatic number plate recognition system to monitor suspicious vehicles and keep the roads safe.

Despite these measures, tire theft cases continue to pose challenges. For instance, a tire changer shop in Deggendorf reported a string of tire thefts, with thieves using advanced tools to quickly remove the tires from the vehicles.

Fortunately, advancements in technology are also playing a role in combating tire theft. Many new vehicles now come equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems, which can alert drivers to sudden pressure changes or tire losses, potentially deterring thieves.
