At an accident on Autobahn 2, four people were injured, one severely. A total of three cars were involved in the accident at Helmstedt (Helmstedt District), according to the fire department. The emergency services treated the injured and also rescued a dog from one of the cars. "The debris extended over all three lanes, including the shoulders", it continued. Therefore, the highway towards Hannover was closed for the duration of the operation. Initially, the fire department and police did not disclose how the accident occurred.

The arrival of the fire department was reportedly hindered by a poor access road, it was stated. "Emergency responders lose valuable time when they have to struggle so much through the traffic jam", said a spokesperson. In addition, some onlookers had left their cars to get a better view.
