traffic - A48 clear - Motorcyclist seriously injured
After a serious motorcycle accident in the afternoon, Autobahn 48 near Ulmen was closed for approximately four and a half hours - towards Koblenz. Witness statements indicated that a motorcycle rider had overtaken a car, as the police reported in the evening. The biker was riding on the right lane at the time. While turning left, he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with the central barrier. The man was taken to a hospital by helicopter with severe injuries.
In response to the incident, authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate urged drivers to be extra cautious on the affected stretch of the Autobahn. Many commuters faced significant delays due to the automatic closure of lanes following the motorcycle accident. Despite the traffic disruptions, some motorists chose to bypass the closure, increasing the potential for additional accidents. Subsequent investigations revealed that similar accidents had occurred at the same spot in the past, leading to calls for improved road safety measures in the area around Trier, specifically near the intersection at Coolenz.
