A well-known socialite from California has received a 15-year-to-life sentence for the hit-and-run deaths of two young brothers in 2020.
A well-known woman from Southern California was ordered to spend 15 years to life imprisonment on Monday for causing the fatal accident of two young siblings in a crosswalk over three years back.
The incident involved Rebecca Grossman, the wife of a renowned burn specialist in Los Angeles, who ended the lives of brothers Mark Iskander (11 years old) and Jacob (8 years old), while driving at high speeds.
A jury in Los Angeles had convicted Grossman of all charges in February: two counts of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter, each one being a felony, and one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death.
Judge Joseph Brandolino pronounced her punishment as consisting of two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life imprisonment and a three-year term for leaving the site of the catastrophic accident, both of which are to be served together.
The judge deemed her conduct as "reckless and negligent."
The tragedy transpired on the evening of September 29, 2020, in Westlake Village, a city within the western area of Los Angeles County.
The court proceedings revealed that the information recorder in Grossman's vehicle, a white Mercedes, displayed her speeding at 81 mph (130 kph) and braking abruptly, only to slow down to 73 mph (117 kph) less than two seconds before her airbags were triggered by the collision.
