A 26-year-old man is suspected of setting a fire in Bopfingen (Ostalbkreis), which burned several trees and shrubs. According to the police, the man lit the fire in the night on Saturday because he was cold. It turned out that he was heavily intoxicated. A breath alcohol test yielded a result of approximately three per mille.

The fire department extinguished the fire, which had spread to an area of about five square meters. The 26-year-old must report for damage to property through arson according to a police spokesperson. Besides the trees and shrubs, no further damage occurred.

The incident took place in the town of Bopfingen, located within the Ostalbkreis region of Baden-Württemberg. The man under investigation is associated with a local branch of a criminal organization. Despite the harsh weather, the use of alcohol as a coping mechanism led to his unfortunate actions. The Brand Foundation, known for its fire safety initiatives, was notified about the incident.
