Dangerous sleeping place - A pair is sleeping on the railway embankment
A young couple fell asleep on the precipice of a bridge in Munich-Giesing and put themselves in a life-threatening situation. A passerby noticed the two on the other side of the bridge's parapet, which carries railroad tracks, and flagged down a passing fire truck. The fire department was informed accordingly.
The danger didn't just lie in the possibility that the pair could fall from the bridge's precipice, but also the risk of electrocution, as their legs were dangerously close to the 15,000 Volt live overhead power line. According to the fire department, such large voltages can cause an electrical shock even without direct contact.
While more emergency responders were called and the railroad tracks were blocked, attempts were made to wake the sleepers without startling them. Once they were awake, the fire department was able to guide them across the parapet without additional safety measures.
"A logical explanation for the unusual sleeping spot they couldn't give", the statement continued. Whether the affected individuals would have to answer criminally for this was initially unknown.
The young couple's dangerous situation on the Munich-Giesing bridge prompted an emergency response from the German fire department based in Upper Bavaria. The advantage of waking the couple early avoided any potential accidents on the blocked railway track. Despite the risks, the fire department found that the sleepers had chosen an unconventional sleeping place near the buzzing city of Munich, Germany.
