poaching - A fox dies by forbidden traps

A fox was trapped and severely injured in Oberfalz with a prohibited steel trap and had to be euthanized. Steel traps are traps that hold an animal with two hooked jaws on its leg when it steps into the trap. They have been banned in Germany since 1995, as a police spokesperson explained. The person who set up the trap and violated the Animal Protection Law is currently being investigated. The fox survived the trap on a Thursday, but the gamekeeper had to kill it due to its severe injuries at Kastl (Amberg-Sulzbach district) afterwards.

The incident of the illegal use of steel traps for wildlife management has led to heightened discussions about criminality in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. Despite the wilderness offering an abundance of wildlife, the level of lawlessness in certain areas is concerning. The authorities are working diligently to address these issues, ensuring the protection of the region's animals and upholding the laws governing wildlife management.
