Fraud scheme - A false policeman was arrested after handing over the loot

A suspected grandparent scam artist was arrested in Bad Segeberg but was soon released. He is accused of posing as a police officer and obtained a large amount of cash and collector coins from a 76-year-old woman. The man was arrested immediately after the handover of the loot, reported the Police on Friday. The seized assets were secured.

According to the Police, the suspected scam artist had informed the senior citizen telephonically that during a burglary in the neighborhood, a list of potential victims had surfaced, which included her name. The 76-year-old woman then received repeated instructions during a long phone call on how to behave.

Eventually, the pensioner put a large sum of money and various collector coins into a bag and handed it over to an alleged police officer. To perfect the disguise, the perpetrator and victim agreed on a code word, which the courier used when collecting the bag.

Lack of Arrest Warrants

The Police did not reveal why they were able to quickly apprehend the suspected scam artist. The man was taken into custody for identification procedures and then, due to the lack of arrest warrants, was released after consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kiel. However, according to the Police, he would have to answer for fraud charges in a court proceeding.

The suspected fraud scheme in Bad Segeberg involved a man posing as a police officer, which is a form of criminality. Despite his arrest, he was released due to the lack of arrest warrants, a decision made after consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Schleswig-Holstein. However, the Police are planning to bring him to court for fraud charges.
