The two people violently killed in a Hotel in Mainz were a married couple. It is now clear that the pair - a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman - were discovered in a hallway on the first floor of the hotel on the previous Friday, as Police and Prosecutor's Office jointly announced.

Neither of the two was registered as a guest of the hotel, neither of them had a residence in Germany. There was no suspicion against third parties, Police and Prosecutor's Office added. One of them was already dead when they were discovered, the other succumbed to severe injuries despite resuscitation attempts at the hotel.

No police knowledge was available against either of them.

Further details on the course of the crime, backgrounds, and motive were not provided by the investigators. It is still unclear which of the two was resuscitated. The autopsy of the two was scheduled for Wednesday. Previously, there were no police knowledge against them, as it was stated.

After the discovery of the two victims, a Special Operations Command (SEK) searched the hotel in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital. The securing of traces was extensive. Around 130 guests were present in the hotel at the time of the crime.
