Personal data - A CDU politician is to take over the leadership of a foundation in Canada
The German State Parliamentarian Bernd Althusmann is expected to take over the management of the CDU-affiliated Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Canada in November. A spokesperson for the foundation confirmed this to dpa upon inquiry. Previously, Politico had reported on this.
With this, the CDU state parliamentary faction is expected to lose an experienced politician. The 57-year-old was the candidate of his party in the state elections in 2017 and 2022 and lost both times against Minister President Stephan Weil. Althusmann was the chairman of the CDU in Lower Saxony from November 2016 to January 2023.
He was Minister of Culture in Lower Saxony from 2010 to 2013 and Minister of Economics and Deputy Minister President of the state from 2017 to 2022. For the politician, it would not be the first station at the foundation. He led the foreign office for Namibia and Angola from 2013 to 2016.
