37-year-old injures several people in Hildesheim
There are two incidents involving knife attacks in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony. Three people are injured. It later turns out to be the same perpetrator. A witness description leads to the arrest.
In Hildesheim, a 37-year-old man is said to have attacked three people with a knife and seriously injured them. The police arrested a suspect late on Thursday evening after several hours of searching in the pedestrian zone. According to investigations so far, the man entered a kiosk at around 5.30 p.m., where he is said to have attacked the 69-year-old kiosk operator and his 56-year-old partner with a knife.
The kiosk operator was slightly injured, his partner suffered serious injuries. The suspect is said to have then left on a bicycle in the direction of the station.
It later became known that the suspect had previously attacked and slightly injured a man at Hildesheim main station. The man cycled to Hanover before informing the police about the incident. A witness description ultimately led to his arrest. The background to the crime is still unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
The knife attacks in Hildesheim have drawn international attention, as they involve multiple victims. The police are conducting an extensive investigation to understand the motive behind these attacks.
