Wietze See - 27-year-old died after swimming accident
After a swimming accident in Isernhagen's Wietzesee, north of Hannover, a 27-year-old man died in the hospital. The man reportedly went underwater on a Friday afternoon and did not resurface, according to a police spokeswoman. He was retrieved and resuscitation efforts were continued on the way to the hospital. The man then passed away on Saturday in the clinic. There are no indications of external causes, the exact cause of death is still unclear, the spokeswoman said. The criminal investigation department has taken up investigations. The fire department assumes that the man was bathing with several acquaintances. The group reportedly stayed at an unsupervised part of the swimming lake.
In response to the incident, authorities in Lower Saxony urged swimmers to prioritize safety, especially at unsupervised areas. Despite the ongoing investigation, locals in the leisure community expressed their condolences towards the family of the deceased, emphasizing the importance of emergency protocols when swimming.
