Crime - 22 people illegally smuggled - apprehended in Guben

German officials from the Federal Police discovered the infiltration of a larger group of people in the Brandenburg border town of Guben. Around 1.15 am on Wednesday, law enforcement officers noticed 22 people, according to the Federal Police, under the city bridge in Guben (Spree-Neisse district).

These individuals were reportedly 20 male persons aged between 11 and 55, along with two small children. According to initial investigations, a small truck had stopped at the border crossing on the Polish side and let them out, after which they crossed the bridge towards Germany.

The Federal Police took the Afghan nationals into custody, who, according to reports, could not produce the necessary documents for entry and residence in Germany. An investigation is being conducted against them for the suspicion of illegal entry and illegal residence.

Against the unknown driver of the transport vehicle, the Federal Police initiated criminal proceedings for the suspicion of smuggling foreigners. Additionally, the Federal Police informed the Polish authorities, who subsequently detained nine more Afghan nationals on Polish territory.
