21-year-old starts fire in refugee accommodation
A 21-year-old man has started a fire in a refugee shelter in Crailsheim in the district of Schwäbisch Hall and then prevented it from being extinguished. On Tuesday evening, the man presumably set fire to a cardboard box, among other things, a police spokesperson said on Wednesday. A 30-year-old employee of the accommodation had alerted the authorities. The employee wanted to put out the fire, but was threatened with a knife by the 21-year-old. He also resisted the police officers who arrived shortly afterwards. The officers finally brought him to the ground and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher.
The 21-year-old is now in police custody. He will face several criminal charges. He himself does not live in the refugee accommodation, but has a migration background, the police spokesperson said. It was not a xenophobic act.
The false alarm of a potential emergency in the refugee accommodation was caused by the 21-year-old's actions. His actions raised concerns about the safety of the refugee shelter and required an immediate response from the authorities.
