14-year-old suspect in the Joel case found guilty
In September, six-year-old Joel is abused and stabbed to death in a bush in Pragsdorf. An expert opinion now confirms that the 14-year-old suspect is guilty. However, another question still has to be decided.
According to an expert opinion, the 14-year-old suspect in the case of 6-year-old Joel, who was killed in Pragsdorf in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is competent to stand trial. A spokesperson for the Neubrandenburg public prosecutor's office said that criminal responsibility was possible in view of his level of maturity and other circumstances.
A decision as to whether and - if so - with which charge the 14-year-old, who is in custody, will be charged has not yet been made. The forensic psychiatric report is still being examined in detail. The 14-year-old was remanded in custody on suspicion of manslaughter.
According to the police, the teenager is said to have abused and stabbed six-year-old Joel in a bush near the soccer field in the village of Pragsdorf on September 14. The suspect was arrested at the end of September. He had become entangled in contradictions and his DNA was found on the murder knife.
The case caused nationwide consternation. According to the spokesperson, the public prosecutor's office will in all likelihood not be able to announce a decision on charges this year.
