14-year-old shoots classmate and herself
In Russia, a 14-year-old smuggles her father's rifle into school and opens fire on her classmates. One child dies and five others are injured. The high school student then commits suicide. Investigations into the background to the crime are ongoing.
According to the police, an eighth-grader at a high school in Russia shot at her classmates with a hunting rifle. One person was killed and five injured in the city of Bryansk, around 380 kilometers southwest of Moscow, according to police in the region. The 14-year-old schoolgirl had brought her father's rifle to school and killed herself after the attack, they said. Another girl was also killed.
The injured classmates were taken to hospital, according to Governor Alexander Bogomas. Two of the children were slightly injured, the other three suffered moderate injuries. The background to the crime was initially unclear. The media reported that the girl had been teased for a long time. The investigation is therefore being conducted into a conflict between the schoolgirl and her classmates.
