Auction - 103-year-old Christmas tree auctioned off for 2600 pounds
A 103-year-old artificial Christmas tree has been auctioned off in England for many times its estimated price. The 78 centimeter small tree from 1920 had been valued at 60 to 80 pounds. However, the hammer finally fell at 2600 pounds (3025 euros), according to the auction house Hansons Auctioneers. Including fees, the buyer even had to pay 3411 pounds.
The auction house spoke of the "most modest Christmas tree in the world" with 25 branches, 12 berries and 6 mini candle holders. The festive magic had led to a breathtaking auction result.
Dorothy Grant, who died in January 2014 at the age of 101, was given the Christmas tree in 1920 at the age of eight, Hansons Auctioneers added. She kept it for the rest of her life. After her death, her daughter Shirley Hall (84) took over the tree.
