Fürth coach - Zorniger after winning streak: "Self-confidence is there"

After SpVgg Greuther Fürth's recent winning streak in the 2nd Bundesliga, coach Alexander Zorniger can understand the fans' dreams of promotion. "Fürth itself is not immodest in certain situations. And it's just before Christmas, so everyone can put their wish list under the tree," said the coach on Thursday. His team's wish list looks "relatively sober and realistic: Full focus on Magdeburg". The Franconians host 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday (13:00/Sky).

Fürth have won seven of their last nine league games and have recently gone on a five-game winning streak without conceding a goal. Zorniger's side are fifth in the table - with a win against Magdeburg and points dropped by rivals Kiel, HSV and Düsseldorf, the "cloverleaf" could even climb to second place and thus into the direct promotion zone. "We're obviously very happy with the season so far," said the coach. "The self-confidence is there, you can see that in the boys."

He did not need to warn the players about Magdeburg, as Zorniger said they were familiar with the class and form of their upcoming opponents. The traditional club from Saxony-Anhalt have won their last two league games and were only eliminated in the DFB Cup round of 16 against Fortuna Düsseldorf (1-2) during the week after conceding two late goals. "They run the ball incredibly well," praised Zorniger. "They play fantastic soccer."
