Panda bears - Zoo: Pit and Paule arrive safely in China

After leaving Berlin, the pandas Pit and Paule have arrived safely in China. The two arrived safely in Chengdu after a flight of more than ten hours, Berlin Zoo announced on Monday. "Pit and Paule coped well with the flight, when the bamboo is right, pandas are usually very relaxed. That was also the case on the flight," said Andreas Pauly, head of the zoo's animal health department, according to a statement.

At their destination, the panda breeding and research station in Chengdu, the bears will now remain in quarantine for 30 days. After moving out, the parent animals Meng Meng and Jiao Qing are still living at Berlin Zoo. The departure of the twins, who were born in 2019, had been planned for some time but was delayed by the pandemic. Like their parents, the bears are Chinese property.

The pandas Pit and Paule's flight time to Chengdu, China, was over ten hours. The famed Chengdu panda breeding and research station is now home to the safely arrived panda bears. Berlin Zoo's Animal Health Department head, Andreas Pauly, reported that Pit and Paule were calm during the flight, a usual trait for pandas. The Berlin Zoo's resident panda parents, Meng Meng and Jiao Qing, continue to live in Berlin, as the twins, born in 2019, start their 30-day quarantine in Chengdu's Zoo.
