Quarterly figures - Zeiss reaches the ten billion mark in sales for the first time
The electronics and optics group Carl Zeiss has broken the ten billion mark in terms of revenue. Revenues thus increased by 15 percent in the 2022/23 financial year (reporting date September 30), as CEO Karl Lamprecht announced on Tuesday. "A great threshold for any company - including Zeiss." Earnings before interest and taxes increased by around 98 million to around 1.7 billion euros.
According to the company from Oberkochen (Ostalbkreis), all four Group divisions contributed to this growth. The most significant growth was in machines for the production of semiconductors. However, the industrial measurement technology, medical technology and eyewear and binoculars divisions also grew. "All of our businesses are being driven by megatrends," said Lamprecht, referring to digitalization, electromobility and the ageing population, among other things. The company therefore expects the growth trend to continue.
This is why the Group is investing in development and research. Over the next five years, the company, which employs around 43,000 people worldwide, also plans to invest around 3.5 billion euros in infrastructure. The majority of this will flow into projects in Germany - such as the expansion of the Oberkochen site or the new site in Aalen-Ebnat.

The quarterly figure for Carl Zeiss in the 2022/23 financial year showed an impressive 15% increase, surpassing the ten billion mark in turnover. This strong performance in electronics and optics was a result of growth across all four Group divisions, with the production of semiconductors showing the most significant improvement. In line with this success, Carl Zeiss, based in Baden-Württemberg, plans to invest around 3.5 billion euros over the next five years, primarily in Germany, to support further development and research.
