Television - ZDF: Gundula Gause is well again after an attack of weakness

News presenter Gundula Gause is doing well again after a minor attack of weakness during the ZDF "heute journal" program on Monday evening. She was examined in a clinic and was given the all-clear during the night, wrote the editorial director of "heute journal", Wulf Schmiese, in an article on zdf.de on Tuesday. Gause (58) also had her say. The cause of her drowsiness was "probably an orthostatic collapse".

This refers to a temporary circulatory weakness. As a result, she was only able to read the news blurred and spoke indistinctly. "Nausea, headaches, dizziness - too little to eat, too little to drink... and I thought I was going to make it," Gause was quoted as saying. "The team gave me wonderful support and I was very happy about the many good wishes from the audience."

According to ZDF, more than 4.6 million people watched the live show on Monday evening, which Gause had to leave at 10.01 pm. "Gundula just got a little dizzy, but the all-clear: she's feeling better again," said main presenter Dunja Hayali at the end of the show, which she had continued on her own.

Editorial director Schmiese wrote that Hanna Zimmermann would take over the co-presentation of "heute journal" this Tuesday so that Gause could still recover.

Viewers commented on the incident on social media and expressed relief at Hayali's statement. Gause has been co-presenter of the program since 1993.
