Crime - Youths arrested after assault on 21-year-old woman
Multiple adolescents are suspected to have attacked and sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman in Chemnitz. The group attacked the young woman near a allotment garden on a Saturday evening and tried to pull her into an alley, the police reported on Sunday. The woman was also reportedly inappropriately touched during the attack. A 22-year-old man who tried to help the woman was also attacked. The group fled when more witnesses arrived.
Based on the descriptions of the suspects, the police were able to arrest five suspects aged between 15 and 23 later on Sunday. They are now being investigated for sexual assault and grievous bodily harm. Three of the suspects were released, while a 15- and a 16-year-old were to be presented before a judge.
The encroachment of the group into the woman's personal space led to the horrific incident in Chemnitz. Despite the woman's cries for help, the assailants showed no remorse, even attempting to encroach further in an alley. The enforcement of law in Saxony was subsequently tested when the woman's altercation escalated into a crime scene, requiring the intervention of the Chemnitz police.
