- Young woman killed - awaiting verdict in murder trial

In the trial for the violent death of a young woman last year, the Regional Court of Siegen will announce its verdict today (at 2:00 PM) against her former partner. The prosecution is seeking a life sentence for the now 24-year-old Syrian for murder. They accuse him of killing his ex-girlfriend with multiple stab wounds on a country road near Emmerich, close to the German-Dutch border.

The 23-year-old had gone missing in August 2023 and was extensively searched for. A farmer found her body. According to the prosecution, the defendant killed the woman, with whom he has two children, during their return trip from the Netherlands.

At the time, another man was in the car with them, who was later questioned as a witness in the Siegen trial. During a stop in Emmerich, the defendant allegedly forced his ex-girlfriend to perform oral sex on this man. As the 23-year-old knelt down, the defendant allegedly stabbed her in the back with a knife, according to the prosecution.

The defense, according to a court spokeswoman, pleaded for a "timely prison sentence". This could mean a maximum of 15 years imprisonment. The defense maintains that the defendant denies the allegations.

The defense argued for a lenient "prison sentence" for the accused, despite his denial of the charges. The young woman, who was the defendant's ex-partner and mother of his two children, was accused of being killed by him.
