Young wolf run over by train near Achim
A young wolf has been run over by a train south of Bremen. A DNA test will now clarify which pack the animal comes from, as Marcus Henke, spokesman for the Bremen State Hunting Association, announced on Saturday. A wolf consultant from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority in Verden reported the dead animal in Achim-Uphusen on Thursday. According to the report, it was a young male wolf about one to two years old. Initially, "buten und binnen" had reported on it.
Railroad employees had already seen the wolf before the accident. The animal had run along a noise barrier and then onto the tracks, where it collided with the train, Henke added. The railroad line was closed for a short time to recover the carcass. The result of the DNA examination should be known in the coming week.
The tragic death of the young wolf underscores the importance of nature conservation, as trains and wildlife habitats often overlap. Protecting the environment and ensuring the safety of animals, such as wolves, is crucial for maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
