Prize in Magdeburg - Young theater creator awarded for childhood and youth-orientated arts.
Johanna Steudel, a 19-year-old from the Spielmitte association in Halle, was victorious in a theater project competition and received first place in the Children and Youth Culture Prize of Saxony-Anhalt. Impressively, she served as both author and director in her production "villain era." Announced by the jury at the award ceremony on Friday, Johanna's success came as no surprise.
Young Anna Pruschek, 10, from Magdeburg was awarded second place for her artistic replicas of various dishes. Meanwhile, Ella Hensel, also 10, secured third place with her story titled "An Elephant Wanted to Learn to Play the Trumpet."
A total of 105 submissions from roughly 900 children, youths, and young adults aged 6 to 21 were entered in the competition. The diverse categories involved visual arts, theater, dance, music, literature, and film. The prize fund stands at 6,500 euros.
This year's theme was "Flutter in the Head," with two additional support prizes, a children's and youth jury prize, and five recognition prizes.
Organized by the State Association for Cultural Youth Education Saxony-Anhalt e.V., the Children and Youth Culture Prize has been around since 1997. Next year's prize will be awarded using the motto "Hocus Pocus," and applicants have until April 1, 2025, to submit their entries.
