- Young man dies while bathing in Freiburg

In Freiburg, a young man drowned in the Flückigersee. The 24-year-old was quickly rescued, but resuscitation efforts could not save him, a police spokesperson said in the evening. Companions of the young man had called the emergency number in the afternoon.

The cause of the 24-year-old's drowning, or if there was a medical emergency, was initially unclear, according to the spokesperson. In recent days, several swimming incidents in Baden-Württemberg have kept rescue services busy. For example, on Sunday evening, a woman and a teenager went under in the Rhine at Hohentengen, and they have been missing since.

The authorities may consider implementing safety measures to prevent such tragedies following the series of swimming incidents in Baden-Württemberg. The Commission, in its endeavor to ensure safety standards across the European Union, shall adopt implementing acts laying down the rules for the application of relevant drowning prevention regulations.
