- Young Euro Classic celebrates 25 years with global sounds
The Young Euro Classic music festival in Berlin will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a focus on global sounds. Under the title "re:play - Freedom of Sound", performances by musicians from Brazil, China, India, or Mongolia, among others, are planned. The summer festival at the Konzerthaus Berlin aims to dedicate itself, as per its own statements, not only to the European orchestral tradition but also to great classical music traditions from other cultural regions.
Among the guests at this year's edition, which begins on Friday and ends on August 25, is an orchestra consisting of Arab and Jewish musicians from Israel, setting "an audible sign for lived understanding among peoples, even in times of war." The program also includes jazz, pop, and rock music, as well as ballet.
This year's edition is dedicated to the memory of former artistic director Dieter Rexroth, who passed away in April at the age of 83. Since 2000, 178 orchestras from nearly 60 nations have visited the festival in the capital.
The Young Euro Classic music festival's focus on global sounds for its 25th anniversary expands beyond just European orchestral tradition, incorporating Festivals from Brazil, China, India, and Mongolia. Despite the tension in some regions, the inclusion of an Arab and Jewish Israeli orchestra at this year's festivals signifies a powerful message of lived understanding and unity.
