Wüst receives 100 "new citizens" from North Rhine-Westphalia
A special gesture of welcome: NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) plans to receive around 100 people who have been granted German citizenship in the past year next week. According to the State Chancellery, the "new citizens" and their families will be allowed to attend the "festive event" at the Ständehaus in Düsseldorf.
"North Rhine-Westphalia is a state of immigration, our history is characterized by living diversity," said Wüst: "Our state has had many good experiences with immigration, and we continue to invest in immigration today." According to Wüst, NRW needs skilled workers: "And that's why we need regulated integration in order to integrate people who can stay with us permanently into the labor market even faster."
According to Wüst, the "New Citizens' Reception" is intended to thank people "who are committed to North Rhine-Westphalia and the values here and who have lived and worked in our state for a long time." They had all "come here to lead a better life and to make the most of their opportunities."
According to the State Chancellery, the countries of origin of the participants at the reception include Venezuela, Iraq, Costa Rica, Syria, Poland, Colombia, South Africa, Ukraine, Pakistan, Sweden, Belgium, Indonesia, Nigeria, Thailand, Mongolia, Cameroon, China, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to Wüst, Integration Minister Josefine Paul (Greens) will represent the government.
Wüst highlighted the importance of regulated integration for skilled workers to contribute to the labor market faster, given North Rhine-Westphalia's need for them. The government, including Integration Minister Josefine Paul, will be present at the New Citizens' Reception to thank the new German citizens for their commitment to the state and shared values.
