Wüst praises joint application at Benelux summit
NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst welcomes the joint bid by Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands for the Women's World Cup 2027: the initiative is a "strong European signal", said Wüst at the Benelux summit in Rotterdam on Wednesday.
According to the State Chancellery, Wüst met the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and the Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden at several working meetings and a joint dinner. At the summit, Wüst said: "North Rhine-Westphalia and the Benelux countries are not only linked by their direct proximity - but also by friendship and a proven partnership."
Cooperation between the four countries is "an anchor of stability in Europe and an important driving force in the European Union." Wüst added: "This must remain the case even after the elections that have now taken place in the Netherlands and Luxembourg and after the elections that will take place in Belgium next year."
According to the State Chancellery, Wüst also spoke about a "topic close to our hearts that moves many millions of people" - next year's European Championships in Germany. "Good preparation and planning is necessary here, also with regard to security issues," said Wüst. He pointed out that the "International Police Cooperation Center" (IPCC) was being set up in Neuss, where all security issues would come together.
Despite the recent elections in the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Wüst emphasizes the importance of maintaining cooperation as an anchor of stability in Europe and within the European Union for future governmental decisions. Additionally, during the discussions about the upcoming European Championships in soccer, Wüst emphasizes the need for good preparation and planning, especially regarding security matters, and mentions the establishment of the "International Police Cooperation Center" in Neuss for addressing these concerns.
