"North Rhine-Westphalia's Chief Minister, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), is set to address the state parliament on Friday regarding the latest developments in the Solingen incident. The state council has called for an exceptional meeting, as announced by the Düsseldorf State Chancellery."

Wüst underlined in his declaration that the Solingen incident holds significant implications for our state. "It's crucial that our parliament is promptly briefed on the current state of the investigation and can deliberate on political actions to ensure our nation's security and liberty." Mistakes must be acknowledged and penalties imposed, the leader of the coalition government asserted. Unanswered questions persist.

His deputy, Mona Neubaur (Greens), shared their commitment to "work relentlessly" towards uncovering the truth. It's their duty, she said, to the victims and their families. "The state parliament is the appropriate platform for a transparent, respectful, and factual discussion of the investigation findings and potential consequences of this week's terrorist attack," Neubaur emphasized.

State Parliament to Delve into Incident

A joint special meeting of the Interior and Integration Committee in the state parliament on the Solingen incident is slated for Thursday. Both the SPD and FDP opposition factions independently petitioned for such a session.

In the late hours of Friday, a festival in Solingen saw three fatalities and eight injuries, four of them severe. The prime suspect is a 26-year-old Syrian who entered Germany via Bulgaria towards the end of 2022.

His return to Bulgaria was mandated under EU asylum regulations, but the man went untraced on the planned day in June 2023. The Federal Prosecutor's Office is now probing him for murder and suspected involvement in the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization.

Other parties in the state parliament also expressed their interest in being informed about the Solingen incident. They believe that a comprehensive understanding of the situation is necessary to contribute effectively to the nation's security.

The other legislative bodies at the federal level should also be kept informed about the developments, as they too have a role in ensuring national security and liberty.
