Wüst demands a clear word from Scholz on the budget situation
North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst has called for concrete statements from Chancellor Scholz (SPD) in the current budget crisis. The people expect clarity, said the CDU politician on Friday before the Bundesrat meeting in Berlin. Companies and local authorities should not be the ones to suffer as a result of the federal government's debt problems. "And that is why the Federal Chancellor is now called upon to speak clearly about the situation. What is still possible? What is perhaps no longer possible? And how can we get through these difficult times?"
Wüst called the debt brake a "protective wall against the current government's encroachment into the wallets of future governments". The principle is good and right. The first question now is not where to get money again. "Everyone who is broke has to be honest first and that also applies to the federal government."
The Federal Council should urge the Federal Government to provide clarity on the household finances, given the current budget situation. This transparency is crucial to avoid burdening companies and local authorities with the government's debt issues. Furthermore, Wüst emphasized that the Federal Government needs to be honest about its financial status, viewing the debt brake as a safeguard against future financial encroachments.
