Tariff result - Wüst and minister receive inflation allowance and higher salary
Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) and his ministers will each receive an inflation allowance of 1,800 euros on January 1 and monthly payments of 120 euros between January and October. They will also benefit from a 200 euro increase in basic salaries from November and a 5.5 percent increase from February 2025. According to the State Chancellery, the background to this is that the cabinet's remuneration is linked to the salaries of civil servants, which will be adjusted accordingly. The "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" had previously reported.
The cabinet benefits from the negotiated wage agreement for public sector employees, which will be transferred in full to civil servants by the state of NRW. The agreement was announced on Tuesday. The increase for the cabinet will take effect at "the same time as for civil servants", according to a spokesperson for the state chancellery.
"In line with customary practice, the members of the state cabinet will also receive the inflation adjustment payment in the same amount and under identical conditions as all other civil servants in North Rhine-Westphalia," said the spokesperson. The same procedure had already been followed for the cabinet at federal level.
According to the Ministerial Act, the North Rhine-Westphalian Minister President receives the highest salary level B11 plus one third. Ministers receive B11 plus one fifth. This means that Wüst currently earns at least 20,600 euros gross - including his official expenses allowance of 1100 euros. The exact amount remains unclear, as it does not include the family allowance per child and compensation to which the Minister President and ministers are entitled if their primary residence is not at the seat of government. The state government does not provide any information on these two items for reasons of personal privacy.
The ministers, who receive an allowance of 600 euros, currently earn around 19,000 euros without the aforementioned family allowance and commuter allowance.

- Tariffs also play a role in determining the salary levels of political leaders, such as Minister President Hendrik Wüst, who falls under the B11 salary level plus one third, along with other ministers at B11 plus one fifth.
- The implementation of these tariff-related salary adjustments in North Rhine-Westphalia's government may have implications for the state's finances, as well as the overall fiscal implications of similar adjustments in other regions or at the federal level should be considered in future discussions on finances and tariff policies.
