Stormarn district - Wrong-way driver causes accident with two injuries
Two people have been injured in an accident involving a wrong-way driver on the Autobahn 1 between Bad Oldesloe and Reinfeld (Stormarn district). According to the information available so far, a 37-year-old man was initially driving a van in the direction of Fehmarn late on Monday evening, turned around in the area of the roadworks at the Reinfeld junction for unknown reasons and drove back onto the carriageway in the direction of Hamburg, according to the police. Here he collided with an oncoming car. The 24-year-old driver and his 25-year-old passenger were slightly injured. They were taken to hospital.
The 37-year-old man who caused the accident was uninjured. A voluntary breath test gave a provisional reading of 1.85 per mille. A blood sample was taken and the driver's license was confiscated. According to initial investigations, the 37-year-old's driver's license was not valid in Germany.
The highway northbound was closed for about one and a half hours for the recovery operations. Material damage of around 45,000 euros was caused.
