Wrong-way driver causes accident and dies
A 63-year-old wrong-way driver caused an accident on federal highway 2 in Swabia and died on the scene despite resuscitation attempts. Three other people suffered minor to serious injuries, as the police announced on Thursday.
According to the report, the 63-year-old drove in the wrong direction on the B2 near Langweid (Augsburg district) on Wednesday evening for an initially unknown reason and then collided with an oncoming car with two occupants. The wrong-way driver's vehicle was thrown across the road by the collision and collided with another car. The 63-year-old died at the scene of the accident. The passenger in the first car was seriously injured, the two drivers were both slightly injured. All three were taken to hospital.
The B2 was closed in both directions for around four hours. The police estimated the damage caused at around 65,000 euros. Investigations into the course of the accident continued on Thursday afternoon.
