World War II bomb successfully detonated near Tesla plant

A world war bomb was discovered near the Tesla plant in Grünheide. It was detonated in a controlled manner on Saturday. The closure around the discovery site was lifted in the afternoon.

A World War bomb in the vicinity of the Tesla Works in Grünheide was controlled exploded on Saturday. The cordon around the discovery site has been lifted, said Nico Bauermeister, the head of the Grünheide Order Office, to the German Press Agency. All residents and neighbors, as well as the employees of the affected companies, could return.

The 250 kilogram bomb was reported to the community Grünheide on Wednesday by the demilitarization service. It was considered not transportable and had to be brought to explosion.

For the explosion, several industrial estates were evacuated, which were located nearby. Parts of the Tesla Works were also affected. However, according to a spokesperson for the company, production was not taking place at the weekend anyway.

The nearby Tesla Protest Camp, which is located in the same forest, was also unaffected by the bomb find. Since the end of February, environmental activists have been present in the forest section with a small settlement of tree houses and tents, protesting against the expansion of the Tesla site.
