World War II bomb found in Nordhausen: Evacuation
A bomb from the Second World War has been found during construction work in Nordhausen. According to the police, it is a 250 kilogram British aerial bomb. It is to be defused in the course of Friday. To this end, a 500-meter exclusion zone was set up around the site of the discovery in Rothenburgstraße in the evening. Apartments, supermarkets and petrol stations were also affected by the evacuation measures. A gymnasium was to serve as a contact point.
The evacuation measures extended to nearby apartments, supermarkets, and petrol stations, all potential impact areas in case of an emergency with the World War II bomb. The consequences of a detonation could be severe, a stark reminder of the destructive consequences of war.
