World War II bomb defused: evacuation lifted
A bomb from the Second World War was defused in Nordhausen on Friday evening. The evacuation measures around the site where the bomb was found have been lifted, the police announced. The unexploded bomb had been found during construction work. According to the police, it was a 250 kilogram British aerial bomb. Before the bomb was defused, a restricted area was set up around the site in Rothenburgstraße for safety reasons. According to the information, apartments, but also supermarkets and petrol stations were affected. A gymnasium was to serve as a contact point.
The evacuation was necessary due to the potential emergencies caused by the unexploded bomb from World War II. The consequences of any accidental detonation could have been severe, given the bomb's size and type.
