Munich Film Festival - World premiere: "Hello Spencer" inventor fights back tears
For the inventor of the 80s children's TV show "Hallo Spencer," the new film with his puppets is a very emotional matter. At the world premiere of "Hallo Spencer - The Movie" at the Film Festival Munich, Winfried Debertin fought back tears. The film had "therapeutic aspects in many ways," he said.
Because it is based on his personal story, it tells how the show's creator (played by Rainer Bock) rescues puppets and props in an abandoned disco on the outskirts of Hamburg and hopes for a comeback.
In real life, this comeback is due to moderator Jan Böhmermann (43), who wrote the script and thus brings his own childhood memories into play. The film was made with the original props from back then, Böhmermann said at the premiere, which took place in the "Neues Deutsches Fernsehen" series. Many team members from the puppeteer team from back then are reportedly also involved in the new version.
"I want to eat you"
In Debertin's disco on the outskirts of Hamburg, we saw "our childhood stacked up." Boehmermann himself is "something between Kasi and Poldi," he said. Kasimir and his somewhat grumbly castle dweller friend, the sculptor Nepomuk, as well as Bookworm Lexi or Dragon Poldi, who still threatens: "I want to eat you," are also back.
Otherwise, almost a quarter of a century after the last "Hallo Spencer" episode was broadcast on TV, many things are different in the film: It deals with the rapid media shift between streaming commerce and public-service lethargy. Galaktika from the distant star Andromeda is the only one who can help.
Besides Bock in the leading role, Victoria Trauttmansdorff, Margarita Broich, and Jens Harzer can be seen - as well as Olli Dittrich as interchangeable CEO of interchangeable streaming services. The film is to be shown on ZDF, an air date was initially not known.
