The six UNESCO World Heritage sites in North Rhine-Westphalia celebrate a special day on Sunday for visitors. This day, known as UNESCO World Heritage Day, is held with the theme "Discover and experience diversity."

Marking a milestone, Schloss Augustusburg and Falkenlust in Brühl will celebrate their 40th year as World Heritage sites. The event will be kicked off by North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Home Affairs, Ina Scharrenbach (CDU). Here, guests can enjoy a vibrant stage program and free entry to the palaces - known as some of the most significant Baroque and Rococo structures in Germany.

Meanwhile, Zeche Zollverein in Essen will host a discussion on the future of industrial culture in the Ruhr region. Underneath the iconic Cologne Cathedral, visitors are invited to explore the archaeological dig site. Other UNESCO World Heritage sites in North Rhine-Westphalia include Aachen Cathedral, Lower German Limes, and Corvey Abbey.

"In North Rhine-Westphalia, our six UNESCO World Heritage sites represent cultural giants that showcase the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the region," shared Scharrenbach in a statement.
