World champion Mustafi becomes expert for Magenta at European Football Championships

2014 World Cup winner Shkodran Mustafi will be a pundit for MagentaTV at the European Football Championship in Germany. The 31-year-old defender will strengthen the team around former national team captain Michael Ballack and former national team player Tabea Kemme, announced Magenta parent company Telekom at a press conference in Hamburg on Friday. Mustafi has been without a club since the summer. He last played for UD Levante in Spain.

Johannes B. Kerner will once again be the presenter and Wolff Fuss will be the commentator. MagentaTV also covered the last European Championship and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In 2019, Deutsche Telekom surprisingly received the complete media rights for the tournament from the European soccer association UEFA. "That was a nice coup," said Deutsche Telekom manager Michael Hagspihl. The Bonn-based company will broadcast all 51 matches via its paid streaming service MagentaTV, including five matches exclusively.

ARD and ZDF have acquired sub-licenses from Telekom. This means that the two public broadcasters will broadcast 34 of the 51 matches live. These include all of the German team's matches, the opening game, the semi-finals and the final.

A further twelve matches can be seen on free-to-air TV on RTL. Telekom and RTL are entering into a comprehensive cooperation for the European Championships. Among other things, the two companies will jointly operate a TV studio and large parts of the production infrastructure at RTL's Cologne site. In addition, RTL will be allowed to broadcast up to six minutes of highlights from all matches of the tournament on its platforms shortly after the final whistle.

Telekom is also a national sponsor and responsible for the network infrastructure. According to the company, the network technology is installed in most of the ten European Championship stadiums. The tests are to start at the beginning of next year.
