- Work on the Nossen-Meißen railway line has begun
Infrastructure maintenance works commence on the Nossen-Meissen railway line. Among other things, old concrete sleepers are being replaced, and wooden beams are being substituted with plastic ones, as announced by the Ministry of Transport. The Free State is funding this measure with 1.7 million euros. The works are scheduled to be completed by June next year.
These so-called maintenance investments aim primarily to ensure that freight trains can continue to reach a strategically important tank farm in Bodenbach. They also lay the foundation for the possibility of reactivating the Dobeln-Meissen line for passenger traffic, according to the ministry. Preliminary planning for this is underway. No regional trains have been running on this line since 2015.
Green Party representative Gerhard Liebscher welcomed the start of the renovation works as a signal to the people in the region that everything is now being done to preserve and make the line usable again. The planned reactivation must now be pursued even more consistently.
The Ministry of Transport took responsibility for announcing the replacement of wooden beams with plastic ones on the Nossen-Meissen railway line, which is undergoing infrastructure maintenance. The Dobeln-Meissen line's reactivation for passenger traffic could be facilitated by these maintenance investments, as highlighted by the ministry, with preliminary planning currently underway.
