Second S-Bahn main line - Work has begun on new station at Ostbahnhof
At Munich Ostbahnhof, preparations for building the underground S-Bahn station as part of the second stem line have begun. According to the railway company, the additional station is expected to be around 16 meters deep. It is one of three underground stations being built in connection with the new tunnel route under the city for Munich S-Bahn.
Since the current pedestrian underpass will no longer be usable during construction, the building of a provisional one will begin on August 1st. This will allow passengers to reach the S-Bahn and long-distance/regional trains without major inconvenience, as stated in the railway company's announcement. The new connection is predicted to go into operation in April 2025.
The second S-Bahn stem line, according to the railway company, will be approximately ten kilometers long and up to 48 meters deep between the train stations Laim and Leuchtenbergring. The project is predicted to be completed between 2035 and 2037. The railway company recently estimated costs of at least seven billion Euros for the entire project.
- The new S-Bahn station under construction at Munich Ostbahnhof is part of a larger railroad development in Upper Bavaria.

- The construction of the underground S-Bahn station in Munich's East station is happening alongside the development of two other underground stations in the city, enhancing the region's public transportation system.
