Public prosecutor's office - Work colleague injures woman with knife and mini-harpoon
A man in Lirstal in the Vulkaneifel district attacked and seriously injured a female colleague at work with a knife and a mini-harpoon. According to the investigators' findings so far, the 21-year-old then shot himself with the air-powered harpoon. He was so seriously injured that he died in hospital a few hours later.
According to the public prosecutor's office and police headquarters in Trier on Monday, the 40-year-old was able to leave the house herself after the attack on Sunday afternoon and alert the emergency services. She was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
The exact background and motive for the attack are still unclear. According to the investigators, the 21-year-old had visited his work colleague on Sunday afternoon and the two of them were presumably together in the house.
Harpoons are usually spears or throwing spears for hunting fish underwater. They are also available in a version with a device that fires them using compressed air or a rubber band. The use of these weapons for fishing is prohibited in Germany.
