Women's ice hockey team third at the Germany Cup after 0:8
The top nations are clearly too strong for the German women's ice hockey team at the Deutschland Cup. The DEB team lost 8-0 (3-0, 1-0, 4-0) to the Czech Republic, who came third in the World Championships, on Saturday in Landshut and finished third in the first edition of the tournament, which was held for the first time with the men. The Czech Republic won the Germany Cup with three victories ahead of Finland. Denmark came fourth.
Almost 17 hours after the clear 1:8 defeat against Finland, coach Jeff MacLeod's players initially showed improvement in front of 3007 spectators. "It will be a different game," announced goal scorer Theresa Wagner. Nevertheless, the Czech Republic scored three goals in the first period against Germany's top goalkeeper Sandra Abstreiter.
In the second period, the German team was equal at times, but missed a goal despite good opportunities. The favorites, on the other hand, were ice-cold and scored two goals shortly before and after the second period break for a clear 0:5.
The MacLeod team did not recover from this double blow, on the contrary. The favorites continued to enjoy the game. Three further successes for the Czech team made the final score 0:8 perfect.
Despite the Women's ice hockey team's efforts, they could not nail down a victory in DEB's tournament, finishing third behind the Czech Republic and Finland. The Czech Republic's women's ice hockey team, who placed third in the World Championships, showcased their superior skills during their match against Germany, resulting in an 8-0 win.
