Dating platform - Woman loses more than 8,000 euros to online acquaintance

A woman has been scammed out of over 8,000 Euro by an online acquaintance. According to the police, the 57-year-old woman had met an unknown man on a dating platform and had been in written contact with him for several weeks.

The man told the woman that he was on a shipping voyage and needed money to return to Germany. The woman transferred him 2,500 Euro in response to his demand. Later, he asked for an additional 6,000 Euro, which she also transferred to him. When the man requested money again, this time a five-digit amount, the woman realized she was being scammed, as reported by the police. The officers are now investigating for organized fraud.

The incident occurred in Thuringia, specifically in the city of Erfurt, Germany. The police are treating this case as a serious instance of online crime. Despite being in a dating relationship online, the woman had never physically met the man, who is now under investigation for scamming her.
