- Woman found dead - Police not ruling out crime
After the discovery of a body in the district of Kassel, investigators cannot rule out a possible crime. Two mushroom pickers had alerted the police on Sunday afternoon in the Kaufunger Forest in the municipality of Söhrewald after they found a lifeless person in a bush, as the police and public prosecutor's office in Kassel announced. Rescue services and a police patrol soon confirmed the death of the woman. She had been lying about 250 meters away from the bus stop "Kiliansblick" next to a secluded forest path.
Due to the circumstances of the discovery, a third party involvement cannot be ruled out. Therefore, the police immediately initiated investigations into the cause of death. The site was cordoned off for several hours for evidence collection. After an autopsy on Sunday at the request of the prosecutor's office in Kassel, a homicide cannot be ruled out at this time. The responsible officers of the Kassel homicide department have taken over the investigation.
Even after a comparison with local missing person reports, the deceased could not be identified. She was estimated to be between 30 and 55 years old and could have been lying at the place where she was found for up to three days.
The public prosecutor's office and police are appealing for information on the identity of the deceased. Witnesses who have seen suspicious persons or vehicles, or other observations that could be related to the deposition of the corpse in the forest area between Fuldabrück-Bergshausen and -Dörnhagen, as well as the wind park Söhre, are also asked to contact the Kassel homicide department. Furthermore, the investigators asked the owners of wildlife cameras set up in the forest area to contact the police, as they might have relevant recordings.
